Subject: [PAFAY] 1790 Bullskin Twp Census Questions
Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2004 12:10:58 -0600

I found these census snips on a Troutman Census site while updating
information on the Geroge Troutman line. These Township locations raise some
serious questions about the "standard model" of his residence pattern in
Fayette County. That said, it may also put in place some other puzzle pieces
that did not fit the standard Union Twp to George Twp residence pattern
always assumed from deed and tax records.

So my questions are: Has anyone found the Fayette County Census Townships
records to be wrong or can I take the Bullskin, George to Redstone and back
to George Twp pattern shown here to be accurate?

Since there was no title or other formal, legally recognized claim to
"tomahawk rights" land, was the land "owned" under "tomahawk rights" but not
patented subject to tax?

If I recall correctly, Bullskin Twp in 1790 covered the whole NE side the of
Youghiogheny River including the present day Stewart Twp?

If this is so, then George Troutman lived all over Fayette County (beside
South Union and George Twps as previously thought) and the "Troutman's
Retreat" land patented by Henry Beeson in 1794 and later sold to Ruben Tharp
seems to indeed been a place of residence for George and Margaret Troutman in
1790.

This just might be a very good way to start the year in genealogy :>) MM
