LISA KIRK, of Roscoe, Pa, who used to sing in the Roscoe Presbyterian
Church and was a majorette at Charleroi High School is stopping the show
in Cole PORTER's "Kiss Me Kate". ELSIE MARIE KIRK got her start in show
business in Pittsburgh. She has sung at the Copa Club. She now has a
choice part in "Kiss Me Kate". He father, the late GEORGE KIRK, was a
minstrel man and her mother is a pianist.
A Brownsville businessman who has been active in the community, NATHAN
KART, is celebrating 50 years of serving customers in Brownsville. He
opened his Market St. location in 1937. Both he and his wife, MARION
GOLDSTEIN KART are graduates of the University of Pittsburgh. In the
early days of the store, Kart's carried children's and women's clothes,
but children's clothes are no longer included. Mr. KART has been a past
president of the Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Fayette County
Redevelopment Authority, a past president of the Brownsville General
Hospital Board of Directors and a former board member of the Brownsville
Free Public Library. April 1987.
1946, The Congregation of the Brownsville First Methodist Church will
observe its 170th anniversary at the 11 AM service tomorrow. A group of
converts and circuit riders organized the church, July 4, 1776, the same
day the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia. The
original log meeting place was razed in 1806 and a one story building was
erected. The present church was built in 1859.
Aug. 17, 1953, show are 4 licensed preachers and ministerial students of
South Brownsville Methodsit Church who were honored at a memorial service
at the church. The special memorial service honored the memory of four
young men of the church and two others from the Sunday School who gave
their lives for their country during WWII. In their memory, the Women's
Society of Christian Service presented the 4 ministerial students, 12
volume editions of the Interpreter's Bible. Mrs. JAMES HERBERTSON is
shown making the presentations to AUBREY R. MORROW, ROBERT L. GUE, LEONARD
D. DAVIS and CONWAY E. KEIBLER. In the center of the picture is REV. D.W.
DAVIS, the church pastor.
Losing their lives in WWII were EUGENE WEAVER WALTERS, GLENN ROBERTS
BOWER, JOSEPH PETERS, JR., HOWARD C. PRINGLE, JR., CURTIS MOORE, and JAMES
GUESMAN.
Golden rose corsages were presented by Mrs. CHARLES E. KEIBLER to the Gold
Star Mothers, MRS. T.D. WALTERS, MRS. MARSHALL BOWER, MRS. MARY PETERS,
and MRS. HOWARD C. PRINGLE.
MAY 15, 1957, Members of Brownsville High School Class of 1957, had as
their speaker, Rev. CONWAY KEIBLER, son of MR. and MRS. CHARLES E.
KEIBLER, Shelton Ave., Southside Brownsville. The event was at the Elks
Hall in Brownsville. Entertainment included three solos: JERRY SLUGER
sang "A White Sports Coat and a Pink Carnation", BOB ACTON sang Graduation
Day, and ALTA GOODMAN sang "Goodnight My Love". CARL HOUGH, assistant
principal was master of ceremonies, EUGENE YACKANICH gave the invocation.
RICHARD ROY, music director led the group singing. Members of the
committee were MARGIE LOLENCIK, DAVE WASHINGTON, BOB HANULA, ED STIMMEL,
VICKIE CICCHETTI, DOLLY GREENFIELD, M. BLACK.
Class officers are JOHN ADAMS, DAVID WASHINGTON, JUDI GALLAGHER, JUDIE
PETROCK. Miss ETHEL McGINTY is class sponsor.
Faculty members on the committee.
