Doug and Don. Thanks for the Ambrose information. John Ambrose, b. Fairfax
Co. VA. ca. 1840, died Franklin Co.PA. 1908, and wife Sarah Keefer, lived in
Franklin Co. for over 30 years. John Ambrose, in 1860 Loudoun Co. VA. is
living with Robert Ambrose and wife Sarah Jones. I thought for a while John
was a son, however his Civil War pension records state his parents moved
west. Sarah Jones Ambrose died in Loudoun Co. 1866, Robert is living in
1870. Robert Ambrose does not show up in Fairfax Co. VA. until 1840, but
1850 he is in Loudoun Co. VA. and in census records through 1870.
John and Sarah Keefer Ambrose raised a child, Remrick Ambrose, (1893-1976)
whose mother was Ann Beard Ambrose, no father found as yet. Death
certificate states b. 1893 in Mercersburg, died Chambersburg, buried
R--lawns Mem. gardens, in Greene Twp. Franklin Co.
I am trying to connect these Franklin Co. Ambroses to Robert Ambrose of
Fairfax and Loudoun Co. Hoping I can then pinpoint which line Robert Ambrose
descends from. My theory John Ambrose had relatives in Franklin Co. This may
be why he decided to settle there. This is rather a complicated search, but
all I have to go on.
Doug, could the Elizabeth Amelia Ambrose buried at Green Hill Cemetery be
your Elizabeth A. Ambrose? Perhaps the dates were transcribed wrong. There
is a William H. Ambrose, 3 Apr. 1924, (MD) ( I assume this is the death
date) buried there.
Thanks for any help.
Mary Anne
