Maryann and list,
I have a Annie NEWCOMER, b. 8 March 1854 in Franklin Co. (possibly
in/near Chambersburg). Her mother's name was Anne/Nancy, b. c.1820, but
I have no info on her father (not even if he married her mother, so I
don't know if Newcomer is Nancy's maiden name or married name). Nancy
and Annie were in Phila. by 1870, where Annie married, raised a family,
and died (Nancy disappears after her one appearance in the 1870 census,
the only record I've ever found her in). Just wondering if either of
them fits into your Newcomer in-law family...or if anyone else on the
list has come across them in their early days in Franklin Co. Oral
family history is that Annie was never baptized until she was an adult
in Phila., but her Phila. baptism shows she was an Episcopalian
convert. I don't know which one is wrong, but I haven't yet found any
church records from Franklin Co. showing her baptism. Any help is
appreciated!
Thanks.
Claire K.
