Stewart wills may assist me in finding a land claim for Henry Corder in
Franklin County, PA.

One Stewart will probated 1793 states "Eldest bro. John Stewart in Paisley
in Ranfurshire 200 acres of Congress lands and my watch. Second bro Robert
200 acres of Congress Land. Youngest bro William resident aforesaid 300
acres in District #7 granted to me for services done in the late war. Was
Franklin County divided into Districts? The second will is for a David
Mahan and Agnes Mahan his wife of Green Twp. probated 1800. It mentions
"land in Green Twp., adjoining lands of James Stewart and others".

Ancestry.com stated that a petition passed for proceeds of the capture of a
British Vessel, naming Joseph Stewart and others dated 1816. Alexander
Stewart claimed compensation for Revolutionary services and a horse lost in
the War of 1812. James Stewart had 12 entries, icluding two that named
private claims and public land - bounty land for services in the Mexican
War and special pre-emption to their improved lands.

I am new to PA history and to ways of locating old settlements in PA. Any
ideas may lead me to where I might look for the Private Claim of Joseph
Stewart and others which is supposed to include Henry Corder. Has anyone
heard of Ranfurshire?

I was hoping for a land map that included Private Land Claims given out as
compensation for military service from the House of Representatives during
the first 75 years of the union. Does anyone have any idea how to see a
copy of the books on the US House of Representatives Private Claims, Vols !-3?
