Hi,
I am just new to the list and researching mainly the surnames Gamble and
Mason from the Dry Run and Spring Run Area.
Thought the readers might be interested in the following. Does anyone on
the list already have a copy of this? A lookup would be nice.

Historical Sketch of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Prepared for The
Centennial Celebration Held at Chambersburg, Pa., July 4, 1876, I. H.
M'Cauley, Second Edition - Enlarged, 1878, facsimile reprint. Softcover,
8-1/2x11, 294 pages, general index. Hardly a sketch, this is a full fledged
history of the county, and just has list after list of the names under
every category imaginable. It is in new book condition.

The history begins before the formation of the county, gives the names of
the early forts, their locations and dates of erection between 1753 and
1764; tells of the Indian incursions and the devestation of the French and
Indian War on this frontier area far from help. Gives the names of the
early settlers and freemen by townships, and what other townships were
created from the orginal ones. Tells about the first jail, the early
newspapers, the justices, the sheriffs, the ministry, the Irish emigrants,
those who served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, up through the
Civil War. Gives the rosters of names of the participants and the rank they
held; tells of the topography of the area. Just about anything and every
thing is in this book and those who were participants in any capacity are
named in this nearly two pound book.
