Brenda -
Would your BAER family possibly be related to Sebastian BEAR whose wife Mary
(b. Feb 27, 1798, d. Jul 17, 1852) is buried in HAWBECKER cemetery in Upton,
Franklin County? My George GIPE and wife Elizabeth BARNCORD have children
buried in that cemetery. George GIPE and Sebastian BEAR are enumerated two
pages away from one another in the 1850 census - Montgomery Twp, Franklin
County.
My GIPEs purchased land in Bureau County, Illinois in 1861, which as you
probably know is adjacent to Henry County where your BAER family settled about
the same time period.
I've long suspected that my GIPEs have Brethren roots, but I've not been
able to either prove or disprove that theory. I have looked at the HAWBECKER
cemetery folks, and have found some to be related to each other, but suspect
that there may be a church connection as well. I'd love to know whether that
is the case.
