I need help trying to find the unit of John S. Boal, born 1836 in
Pennsylvania, died 1878 in Washington County, Iowa. I have pored over many
records and have yet to find any definitive information.

Here are the four men I have narrowed it down to:

All are named John Boal.

1. Served Pennsylvania Commission H Co. 7th Inf Reg. PA
Enlisted 22 April 1861 1st Lieut Mustered Out at Harrisburg, PA on 29 July
1861

2. Enlisted 31 August 1861 Captain Served Pennsylvania Commission G Co. 49th
Inf Reg. PA Resigned on 25 October 1862 Transferred on 11 January 1863 from
Company G to Company C

3. Enlisted 23 June 1863 Captain Served Pennsylvania Commission D Co.
Litzinger's Inf Reg. PA Mustered Out on 08 August 1863

4. Enlisted 27 June 1863 Priv Served Pennsylvania Enlisted G Co. 55th Inf
Reg. PA Mustered Out on 26 August 1863
