Laney...thanks for the input.

I have, at best, a circumstantial case for connecting John Philip Maurer and
Elis. Barbara as the family into which David Blackwell married (BTW, his
name was spelled Bleckwell in the marriage record compilation and her name
is shown as Elisabeth). Further, I'm really guessing the John Philip Maurer
b. 15 November, 1746 is the same guy that fathered Elis. Barbara (I found
the birth record for J.P. in "Early Lutheran Baptisms and Marriages in
Southeastern Pennsylvania" at Ancestry.com).

The problem is that there were many, many Maurer's in Berks Co. at that time
and sorting them out w/out guess work is essentially impossible. Of course,
that's why I posted my query--hoping some Maurer researchers could "show me
the way."

The greatest irony is that I'm not even sure my family name is truly
Blackwell...my early guys couldn't read/write, so the spelling of the name
was up to the literate people they dealt with. I had a DNA test last year
which indicated probable English origins...but only on the strength of an
exact 12 marker match w/one man in England who has a different surname...and
the haplogroup appears to indicate a Mid-East origin. I really got a jolt
recently when I saw (in the news) an Army spokesman in Iraq named Scott
Bleichwehl.

Poor folk didn't leave many records, particularly in the 1700's, so many of
my early research results resemble a house of cards.

Thanks again, Drew

Andrew,

This is from Berk's County Church records, some of which you have

1.Rosenthal New Bethel or Corner Church

Elis. Barbara, b Feb 9, 1774, bapt Apr 3, 1774 , of Philip and Mary
Magdalene Maurer, spons: Elizabeth Maurer and Jacob Petri
baptized by Rev John Conrad Steiner jr.

Christine b Oct 30, 1771 bapt Dec 1, 1771, of John Philip and Mary Magdalene

Maurer, spons: Christine Mary and Martin Bernhauseer

2. Schwartzward Reformed Church

Jun 4, 1797 Elizabeth Maurer, of Robeson , Berks Cty married David
Beackwell, of Robeson, Berks Cty

Nellie Blackwell daughter of David and ---- bapt Jan 1, 1798, age 15
weeks last Wednesday spon: Marie Maurer

Johannes Blackwell, son of David and ---- born May 26, 1799, bapt Oct 16,
1799
spon: Johannes Maurer

3. Tulpehocken, Berks County
Records of Rev John Casper Stoever

May 27, 1740 John Philipp Maurer married Catarina Rameer
(don't know if this is one of yours or not)

I couldn't find a John or John Philip with a birthdate of Nov 15, 1746, I
did find one with the birthdate of Nov 10, 1745 his parents were Henry and

Anna Elizabeth Maurer, but of course no proof that this yours.

All spellings are as shown in the records.
Hope this helps a little.
Laney
