Montgomery county was formed in 1784 so earlier data likely in Philadelphia county.

John Barnes, 150 4 6 1 20 .1 .4
Earls Barnes,
Thomas Barnes, 50 2 2 6.16 .0

The USGenWeb archives

http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/philadelphia/taxlist/horsham1774.txt

http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/philadelphia/taxlist/horsham1769.txt
also has Barnes John and Thomas with the same amount of land

Do a search

You would then likely need to get land records which should show the "history of the land" .
