Do you happen to know what all of those numbers mean on the right side of those censuses from that time period?

I'm supposed to be from the line of Thomas and the theory is that his dad is John. But in 1790 Thomas isn't in the census, and suddenly in 1800 he's there with his wife Elizabeth Palmer Barnes. So it sounds more like he immigrated inbetween the two years and grabbed Elizabeth from the COnnecticut stock, as she's up there in the 1790 census as far as I've gathered.

Montgomery county was formed in 1784 so earlier data likely in Philadelphia county.

John Barnes,                      150       4       6          1    20 .1 .4
Earls Barnes,
Thomas Barnes,                     50       2       2                6.16 .0

The USGenWeb archives

http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/philadelphia/taxlist/horsham1769.txt
also has Barnes John and Thomas with the same amount of land

Do a search

You would then likely need to get land records which should show the "history of the land" .
