I am still looking for information on Silas Waters Martin.
He was a son of Daniel M. Martin and Rachel Rush Martin
who were of Center Twp, Greene, PA. Born about 1840 and
died presumably in early 1871. The county courthouse shows
an instrument for an inventory for the widow of Silas Martin
dated April 4, 1871.
In the 1870 Franklin Twp, Greene Co. Census schedule Silas, 28,
is listed as a blacksmith with Caroline, 28, and Samuel, 2, and a
domestic Emaline Thomas, 32.
Silas' Civil War records are partly missing (this may be due
to a late transfer) and no pension was filed for by either the
widow or on behalf of his son.
To date no grave has been found for Silas or Caroline. However
I do not have a listing of the graves on the Crouse farm near
Crouse's School. This is believed to be the farm of Samuel Crouse
who is believed to be the father of Caroline Crouse Martin. This
farm may have transferred to Enos/Enosh Crouse as in the
1870 Center Twp Census Enos/Enosh and his wife are living
with his parents.
Any information in connection to the death and grave of Silas
Martin or Caroline Crouse Martin would be greatly appreciated.
Debbie
