I thought this might help if there is anyone planning to
go to Greene County to do research in the near future.
My brother tried to research the county tax rolls yesterday
and was unable to. The building where these are normally
housed is under renovation so they are in temporary
housing.

This means they are not in any order and some have
not been located since they were moved. When they
move back to their home office hopefully these will again
be searchable. However the person my brother talked
to was not making any promises. This seems to apply only
to the tax records as he was able to find court documents
without too much trouble.

I think it would be prudent to call any office you plan to
visit before leaving home to do research. I think this will
help decrease the chance of unfulfilled expectations. Greene
County does not have the finances or the manpower to
keep offices open during hours which are not in maximum
use. Also there are 2 state prisons in the county so the court
recorders office is stretched to the limit some days.

I hope everyone will try to visit at some time because they
have interesting sources of information and it is still very
quaint. And most sources must be hand searched as almost
nothing is on computer.
