HENRY EUGENE STAHL, III, b. 3-Feb.1752 in Cumberland Co., Pa.,
d. 1-Apr.1816 in Somerset Co., Pa. was a grandson of HENDRIX EUGENE STAHL, a
Mennonite expelled from Switzerland on account of his religion. In 1711,
HENDRIX went to Rotterdam, Holland via the Rhine River and from here he and
family sailed for America. The voyage took five months and three days. His
wife, two daughters and one son died on the way. In March 1712, he arrived
at Philadelphia, Pa. with his surviving son HENRY EUGENE STAHL II, aged five
years. HENDRIX EUGENE STAHL, died and is said to be buried in the oldest
cemetery in Lancaster, Pa.
HENRY EUGENE STAHL II (1707-1790) was a taxable in 1750 in
Cumberland Co., Pa. On 3 Sept.1764 he took out naturalization papers. He
owned land in Maryland and in Pennsylvania. He died in 1790 and is buried
at Greencastle, Franklin Co., Pa. "He and five sons were in the
Revolutionary War," Estate papers, dated 5 March 1790 (Franklin Co.) name
his wife Margaret and the following children: MICHAEL (eldest), LEONARD,
HENRY, JOHN, SUSANNA (unmarried), BARBARA m. Jacob Hicks, DANIEL, and JACOB.
The son LEONARD STAHL was one of the founders of Stahlstown, Westmoreland
Co., Pa.
HENRY EUGENE STAHL III (1752-1816) was married on 14-Apr.1780 in
Washington Co., Maryland to ROSINA STEMPLE (1765-1815) a daughter of Godfrey
and Margaret (Boyles) Stemple. He served 4 years during the Revolution
under Capt. James Young, in the Cumberland Co., (Pa.) Militia. They came to
Somerset Co. and acquired a large amount of land, part of which is now in
the borough of Somerset. In 1782 he purchased the land which is now the
GEORGE CLARK STAHL farm near Husbandm Somerset township from James Black.
This farm has continued to be owned by members of the Stahl family for 200
years. HENRY and ROSINA are buried in Ankeny Square Burial Ground,
Somerset, Pa. The following children are names in the estate papers of
Henry Stahl No. 16-1816.

JOHN b. 12-Nov.1785 m. Barbara Harmon.
DANIEL b. 31-Aug.1787 m. Margaret Nancy Fox (family continued).
DAVID b. 11-Jan.1790 m. Margaret Hull on 29-Apr.1815 (Somerset
MARY {Polly} m. Henry Benford.
SUSANNAH m. David Siford
SAMUEL m. Catherine Parker.
LEONARD a chairmaker - bur. Ankeny Square.
SARAH m. James Benford.
Last four were minors in 1816. Birth dates from Samuel's Church
DANIEL STAHL b. 16-Aug.1788 (differs from Baptixmal record) d.
23-Dec.1874, m. MARGARET NANCY FOX, b. 11-Dec.1791; d. 27-June1877. Both
buried in Ankeny Square. Nine children from estate papers:

JOHN (father of Augustus and g-father of Clarence Stahl,
WILLIAM HAMPTON STAHL b. 7 Feb.1834; d. 30 March 1913, m.
4-Dec.1856 to MARY ANNE WALKER (of Geo. and Mary {Polly} Countryman Walker),
b. 10-Jan.1834; d. 1 Mar.1893. William and Mary Anne buried Union Cemetery,
Somerset. William was 3rd generation to live on Stahl farm. There were six
children born to this family.
1. CYRUS AGNEW STAHL, b. 25-Feb.1857, m. Flora Belle Weller (of
Jacob); lived near Husband, Somerset Twp. Much of the village of Husband is
from the Cyrus Stahl farm. Their seven children: Stewart Earl m. Edna
Pritts; Margie Viola m. Milton A. Baker; Irvin Weller m. Hazel Delilah
Schrock; Albert R. m. Ella Brougher; Harry A. m. Mayme Pritts; Daryle m.
Wilson Stoy; Park Lee m. Eva Mae (__) Coulter.
2. LIZZIE KETURA STAHL, b. 1-Feb.1859, m. Uriah {Polly} Saylor
of Husband; Somerset Twp. They had six children: Albert William m. Sadie
Flickinger; Bessie Anna m. Geo. W. Maust; Robert C. Bertha Wise; Lloys R. m.
Mildred Wise; Binnie Grace m. Earl E. Hoffman; Carrie m. James Kimmel.
3. DANIEL GILLETTE STAHL, b. 19-Mar.1865, m. Grace Rishaberger,
lived Somerset, Pa. Two Children: Elsie M. m. 1st, Henry Barron, 2nd, Earl
Knootz; William Ray m. Lottie Smith.
4. CLARK EDGAR STAHL, b. 13-June1871, m. 1st Trent, 2nd,
Catherine Ernest of Latrobe. Twins (second wife) Ernest and Elizabeth
5. ANNA MARY STAHL, b. 7-Sep.1876, m. Nelson, lived Grey,
Somerset Co. and later Greensburg. Three children: infant son; Myra m.
Gordon Clark; Emily m. Harry Blanset.
6. WILLIAM GRAHAM STAHL, b. 11-Sept. 1862; d. 24-May.1942; m.
Zura Belinda {Binnie S.} Walker, b. 4-Feb.1867; d. 18-Nov.1953, (dau. of
Philip and Polly Fritz Walker). Both bur. Union Cem., Somerset, Pa. TRwo
Children: Anna Gertrude and Clark Walker Stahl. (family continued.)
1. ANNA GERTRUDE STAHL (of Wm. G.) b. 1895, d. 1925; m. John
Calvin Maust, b. 3-Feb.1895, d. 6-Jul.1970 (son of Frances and Amanda Yowler
Maust); Both bur. Casebeer Cemetery. Three children: Ernest L. m. Louetta
Schrock; William F., m. Freda Wolford; Emily m. Miles Knepper.
2. CLARK WALTER STAHL, b. 28 July 1901. Fifth generation to own
and operate te Stahl farm. Married 29 Nov.1923 to Etta Belinda Hay, b.
8-Jan.1905 (dau. of Wm. Joseph Rupp and Nellie Mason Hay). Four children:
1. EVELYN MAE STAHL m. Robert Nelson Larimer, lives in
Johnstown, Pa. Their children: Donna Rae Gros, Lee Edward, Marlene Kay
Sawyer and Dean Alan.
2. WILLIAM HAY STAHL, m. Dorothy Speicher, live at Somerset.
Children are: Roger William, killed Viet Nam; Rebecca Jane Minnich; JoAnn
3. ERNEST EDGAR STAHL, m. Maxine Elizabeth Leer, live Somerset.
Four children: Sue Ann, Linda Marie, Jeffery (need to get the rest.)
