Dear Barb,

Both Co. G (Taylor Guards) of the 13th Penna. Inf. and Co. H (Schellsburg
Riflemen ) of the 55th Penna. Inf. were from Bedford County, PA.

The 13th was a 3 month unit that was organized immediately after the fall of
Fort Sumter when it was thought the war would be very short. When this term of
duty was completed the unit was disbanded and many of the men re-enlisted in
another regiment such as the 55th for 3 years or the duration of the war.
