Jay Smith Grumbling
Jay Smith Grumbling, a native of Pine Flats, who had been serving as Superintendent of supplies at the Torrance State Hospital for several years, died in Allegheny General Hospital early Tuesday morning with complications following an operation for mastoid trouble, on Saturday. Mr. Grumbling recovered recently from an attack of pneumonia and was taken to the Pittsburgh hospital on Friday for the mastoid operation.
A son of M. S. and Lavina Smith Grumbling, Blairsville, R.D., the deceased was born at Pine Flats November 24, 1890. His family moved to a farm near Blairsville and he attended schools, graduating from Blairsville high school and later from Pennsylvania State College.
When the State Hospital was built in Torrance, Mr. Grumbling was placed in charge of supplies. He was a member of the Tall Cedars, F. & A. M., Conundersport Consistory, the Blairsville Presbyterian church and Post 407, American Legion.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Dorothy Sandles Grumbling, three children, Joan, Dorothy Jane and Jay Jr.; one sister, Mrs. W. P. Ellwood, Blairsville, and two brothers, Milton H., and D. Stuart, both of Blairsville.
Funeral services will be held from the late home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, in charge of the Rev. J. C. Stuart.
