Walt,
I think I may have uncovered a secret as to why the family would not talk
about a family member from the Civil War ere. In my case I shared the
information with other family members because the person in question is
deceased, so it wouldn't affect the person. I personally would not ( and
this is just my opinion) reveal something to another family member that
might embarass or upset a living person, but I would press on in doing
research.
