Neu in German is pronouced noy. The English meaning of neu is "new". So,
in America, they may have called it newreuter as sort of an
Americanization of the name.

Hi Terry,
I was reading through the list and I notice your last name may be ENGEL,
is it possible the name descends from Scranton Area? My Grandmother
Alma ENGEL/ENGLE(?) BRITTON, b.1895, Scranton. I have not been able
to find any info on her, and I just thought I would take a chance by asking
you, if you may know anything.
Thanks,
Pat Britton<>
