I am trying to determine date of death for Thomas GERRITY who was born in
Carbondale, PA circa 1852. His 1891 marriage application indicated he was 39
and his parents were Lawrence and Margaret GERRITY. Thomas was a Railroad
conductor. His first wife died September 7.1880. He married Margaret MAHON
MARFING June 30, 1891, in Scranton, PA.
Margaret's first husband Louis MARFING died December 1, 1887. Her parents
were Edward and Margaret MAHON. Margaret MAHON MARFING GERRITY died June 24,
1944, in the home of her daughter Blanche GERRITY McNISH in Scranton. Her
obituary stated that her husband Thomas died 40 years ago. The 1900 census
indicates Margaret GERRITY was a widow living at the family homestead at 539
Gordon Ave. Scranton. I have not been able to check a Scranton City directory
for the years 1899, 1898 to see if Thomas was still living or died in 1900
before the census month.
Other surnames associated with this family include Mrs. Emma MARFING SURGENT
of Newark, NJ; Mrs. Margaret MARFING PETERSON of Philadelphia, PA; Louis A.
MARFING of Philadelphia and Mrs. William (Blanche GERRITY) McNISH of
Scranton; Mrs. Margaret McNISH TESTE of Scranton and Mrs. Helen WALTON
GERRITY.
