Subject: [PA-LAC] LDS Family History Centers - renting film/fische
Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2001 05:45:25 -0600

Hello:

Family History Centers can be located under "churches" in the yellow
pages of your phone book. Look for the correct title of the church:
[The] Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

You will NOT find the church listed in the phone directories under
nicknames such as "Mormon", "LDS", or "Latter-day Saints. Locations
of your nearest Family History Center can also be found online at
<www.familysearch.org>.

Each Family History Center varies as to what films and/or microfische
are permanently stored there. For the most part, any microfilm you
want to view is $3.25 to "rent" for a period of 4-6 weeks. The
microfilm will take 10-14 days to arrive at your local FHC. Fische
may take slightly longer. Both film and fische must be viewed on the
FHC premises. (You may not take the film or fische to your home or
to another location to view). Microfische are 15 cents per sheet.
Some microfische numbers, although just one order number, can contain
multiple sheets (so know how many SHEETS your are ordering).

If you want your microfilm to remain for a additional period or term
at your local FHC, you can pay a renewal fee. After the microfilm
has been renewed three times ($3.25 x 3), the film will remain
"indefinitely" at your local Family History Center. In my case, for
example, the 1850 census of the Schuylkill PA census remains
indefinitely at my local FHC since myself and another researcher have
ordered the same film a total of three times.

Visit www.familysearch.org and search the "Family History Library
Catalog" to see what items have been filmed for your desired research
location. Check your location several ways: (1) state, (2) county,
(3) specific city or town, (4) surname.

Good luck in your searches.
