Just wanted to thank everyone who responded to the the query I made regarding
deeds. It seems that the coal companies generally kept mineral rights and
would not be liable for any damage to structures or injuries to individuals
incurred as a result of their mining on the property before or after it was
sold.
I also had a response from someone who also had a deed that prohibited the
selling of alcohol.
