I have been given several small scrapbooks compiled by my grandfather, Frank J. Kilcullen, a lifelong resident of Scranton (1890-1977). Most of the articles and photos that he saved pertained to our family; however, as I go through the scrapbooks I'm discovering mention of others that I thought I'd share with the list from time to time.

The first is a World War II publication entitled "Typo-Tales", dated January 25, 1945. The newsletter was published every two weeks for the members of the Scranton Typographical Union serving in the armed forces.

Publisher: Neil V. LALLY
Staff members: Walter OSCHMANN, Kenneth I. DAVIES, James E. CLARKE, Martin MAGAS, Maurice SPELLMAN.

Mae DAVIS of Mifflin Avenue was held up by two men a short distance from her place of business. They did not get what they were after -- Mae still had her fur coat when they were scared off.

TOMMY JONES REPORTED "MISSING IN ACTION" IN BELGIUM SINCE DEC. 24
According to a War Department message received last week, Pvt. Thomas J. JONES, thirty-six, husband of the former Miss Margaret PUGH, 1008 Corbett Avenue, is missing in action in Belgium since Dec. 24. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Jones, 730 West Locust Street, and is the father of three children, Thomas, thirteen; Betty, twelve, and Peggy Ann, ten. Tommy, as he is known to his many friends in the city, was employed in The Times composing room. Tommy received basic infantry training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and went overseas in August, 1944, from Fort Meade, Md.

O'TOOLE FLYS (sic) OVER CITY
Gerald O'TOOLE, son of the late John O'Toole, a former linotype operator on The Times, piloted a Liberator over this region last week while on his way from Langley Field, Va., to Connecticut. Young O'Toole has flown thirty missions over enemy territory.

TRIBUNE NOTES

John CONMY was treated at the State Hospital Jan. 11 for laceration of the second finger of his left hand suffered when the finger was caught in a machine while at work. Five sutures were applied.

Harold R. JONES, son of Owen Jones of The Scrantonian-Tribune, while attending a radio quiz program recently at a USO party in Milwaukee, won a ten-minute telephone conversation with his wife in Stroudsburg.

The Tribune Invincibles, Harry PYSH's shuffleboarders, put the sign on Harry MORGAN's I.C.S. starlets by a score of four games to three in a match played at Scotty's on Saturday a.m.

Pensioner Jake KOHNSTAMM visited us recently. Jake looks and feels fine.

Al FELDCAMP, a Trib stereotyper now doing his bit for Uncle Sam, dropped us a line from Italy recently.

Harry YUNGKURTH was on the sick list for a few weeks.

Our sympathy is extended to Leon FELDMAN in the death of his mother.

Practically the entire composing room force is now smoking pipes and rolling their own due to the cigarette shortage.

The maintenance directors -- all of them janitors -- are going to be placed on the five-day-a-week basis. We understand the newswriters are next on the list.

"Spike" MARION dropped us a few lines in which he states he is still fighting the "Bloodless Battle of Charleston."

Ed JOYCE sends his regards to all the boys. He is now stationed in Jerusalem.

Matt BARRY, stationed at a camp in the West, writes that he expects to be moved in the near future.

John DAMAL is now "rolling" his own since the cigarette shortage hit this region.
