Here is an article about gg grandfather who was born March 28, 1851 and died
April 24, 1942. The artilce says he was born in Steer, Northampton County.
Does anyone know of Steer?

SUMMIT MAN IS 87 TODAY
JENNINGS RECALLS WOODCHOPPING DAYS

Another milestone in his career will be celebrated today by Lewis Erwin
Jennings Clarks Summit, when he observes his 87th birthday. Born at Steer,
Nothampton County, his varied lifetime includes the sawing of wood to be used as
fuel for engines on the old Lackawanna Railroad.

In recalling his woodchopping days Jennings said, "It was four foot wood we
sawed it in half to burn in the engines. The first week we cut 25 cords each
day." Because his father enlisted in the Civil War, Jennings was required to
get out and work, although but 11 years old at the time. His first job was on
a farm at Richmond, Pa., with his board and room as the only recompense.

In 1872 he went to Newton and for 23 years did this type of work and there
learned the masonry trade work at the Hillside Home. In 1920 he traveled
through France, England and Wales. Proudly he says, "I have been a Republican all
my life and have taken The Scranton Tribune for 60 years."
