If I may, let me share how one of my "cousins" and I finally found a maiden
name.
We both are ardent fans of the naming game for children. You know, 1st boy
child after the husband's father, 2nd after the mother's father, etc. We
looked for a common name used down from her children to grandchildren, etc.
In our line it happened to be Hiett. This name showed up in 3rd
generations even.
Then we went back to wills, deeds and most importantly the final accounting
of the property of George Hietts. In our case I found a land grant thru
the Library of Virginia digital records on their website, my cousin found a
will in a near by county. Bingo, there in the estate settlement was
Charlotte, d.o. George Hiett.
And that is exactly what Charlotte had named her son....George Hiett Harper.
Wish you luck.
