I think the sale of information on CDs has been pretty questionable from the
beginning. When they first began appearing they included information from
several states often with no connection to each other. The idea was to force
people who wanted to buy lists of Lancaster County Marriages to buy also deeds
from another county, in another state. All in an effort to increase sales. I
don't have a problem with them making money on their products but I think
their ethics are shaky.
A few years ago Ancestry released a CD of Philadelphia Vital Records, they
changed the name but this was the same information formerly sold in book form
as Pennsylvania Vital Records and then on CD by another company under another
name. I'm sure they were able to sell this CD to lots of people who had
already checked these records. I'm left with the impression that they are not
interested in dealing with their customers honestly.
