There were a number of people who took out a warrant on the land, then
failed to survey or follow through on the process, (My ggggggfaher being one
such; no patent, but an original warrant when they finally re-opened the
land office in the early 1730s.) Have you had PHMC in Harrisburg run a Land
Patent / Warrant search? Also, there were a couple of tracts (one along the
Pequea) which were massive tracts to one person, who then subdivided them.

Hi Cathi,
There was a 5 step process to acquire land from the Penns, the first step
was
the warrant. I don't seem to remember all five steps but it was warrant,
survey, return of survey and patent. This process was only followed by
those
who bought land from the Penns, after this purchase the property was sold by
deed and appears in the various Lancaster County Deed Books.
