Have you tried John Humphrey's books? There are, I think, 29 dealing with
births, etc. in eastern Pa. in the 1700-1800's.
Do you know where in Germany he came from?
There are two organs. that assist in researching German ancestors: MAGS
(Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society, www.rootsweb.com/~usmags/ and Palatines to
America which has a Penna. Chapter, www.palam.org.
