Phyllis: according to Hunter Rineer Churches and cemeteries of
Lancaster County on page 205 under Lancaster city is the following:
Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Cnurch founded 1904... fromer site of
St Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church 1903-04...fromerly called A.
Herr Smith Memorial Chapel.
church records are held by the Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church
730 No Plum
St at Clay Street in Lancaster from 1904 to date and held by
congregation..
looks like this had many names
1894-95-99/1900 Lancaster City directories list A. Herr Smith Memorial
Chapel. Organized as a mission of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church
1903 - Congregation formally organized
1904 0- church was not successful and chapel bvuilding was sold to Mt.
Calvary Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)
this is the only reference I can find in the book to St Matthew's
Lutheran. not sure of how old you need the records to be.
