Hi Bob,
I checked the Conestoga Area Historical Society web page and didn't see
any references to the early Stehmans. I thought there would be a reference
in the History of Pequea Twp., from Ellis and Evans, History of Lancaster
County. I believe they lived in what is now Pequea Twp. but was then
Conestoga Twp. The fact that he married a Brenneman, who were in the New
Danville area suggests that this is the family. There probably won't be any
church records, Mennonites didn't keep them, but you can check wills and
deeds. Often a father will sell or give his son land and their relationship
will be mentioned in the deed. These first generation connections are often
difficult to establish because of the lack of records.
