Hi Donna,
Are you a descendant of Capt. Hebble ? If so you might want to come to the 200th Birthday Celebration for Conestoga Centre, its on Sept. 3rd, 2005.
No, I don't know what a stone boat is, I've never heard the term but it could be a boat to move stone. There was also some construction of boats made of concrete, one sunk off the coast of Cape May Point, New Jersey. When I was a kid we used to go see it but I'm not sure it if is still there. It was clearly visible 40 years ago.
Yes, the Conestoga Area Historical Society would love copies of Capt. Hebble's pension papers, the address is:
Conestoga Area Historical Society
P.O. Box 232
Conesotoga, Pa. 17516-0232
I've already added a copy of the premature account of his death that I posted to the list and the material I found in the New York Times to the family file.

Hi Jim,
If you would provide me with an address for the Historical Society, I made
some copies of Capt. Christian Bartholomew HEBBLE's pension file I would like
to send to you. In it are affidavits concerning his birth record in the family
Bible among others.
Just a few facts that can be extracted are:
He was the son of Jacob HEBBLE and was born 24 February 1839. In March of
1913 The HEBBLE Family Bible was in the custody of Christian's sister, Susan
CORMENY of Lancaster, PA.
He married Ann M. ENOS in Gloucester CO. VA on 26 December 1861.
Children (living on 26 September 1906) were:
Ida E. born 26 Aug 1864
Ella C. born 30 Oct 1865
Frank born 27 Jan 1867
Annie M. born Oct 1868
Emma L. born 19 April 1870
Amos Sherman born 22 Nov. 1875
Lillen M. 14 Feb 18??
Elnien 6 Aug 1882
Christian B. 24 Feb 1885
Bessie F. 20 Feb 1888
Ann M. HEBBLE was deceased by 31 October 1913, although there is no exact
date of death, she apparently died shortly after her husband.
In the census records Christian B. HEBBLE listed his occupation as the owner
of a lumber yard. The letter that was written to the pension board informing
them of his death was on a company letterhead:
C. B. HEBBLE
manufacturer of
Cars, Scale Boxes, Centers, Stone Boats,
Wedges, etc.
If I would have had more time, I probably would have found much more. His
pension file was interesting but I suspect his military file would reveal
fascinating discoveries. Researching this man and his family would be great fun
for his descendants, he seems to be very well documented. Hopefully someone
will step up and take over from here.
Regards,
Donna Robinson Falcone
By the way, does anyone know what a "stone boat" is?
