I wanted to let you all know that I had better luck with a phone call
yesterday. I reached a woman who quickly forwarded my call to the
appropriate office and the woman there very kindly answered my
questions.

For $5, cash or MO, no checks, they will do a search. They have death
records from 1893-1904, early birth records, I didn't write down the
date, and marriage records from 1885. Of course there are no guarantees.
Include a SASE for their use.

The request should be sent to Helen Morgan, Prothonotary, Lawrence Co.
Government Center, 430 Court St., New Castle, PA 16101. I had received a
message from Joan who also told me that she was helped by Helen. So now
I can check at the court house and the library.

An extra note here. I was searching for a 1906 death record in
Clearfield Co and was told it would be at the state level. While I was
there they let me look through the big books where the earlier deaths
were recorded. It is alphabetical but I learned a long time ago to look
at the end of the index, book, census records, whatever, and there he
was written in with the 1905 deaths even though it occurred in 1906. And
it was recorded as occurring in 1906. That part was correct, it was just
in the wrong book.

Thanks to all of you for your help.
Beverly Carter
