Herring, Grant, subject, of Sunbury. born May 19, 186?, at Centerville,
Columbia Co., son of George A., and Mary A. (Hess).
Christoper Herring, emigrant ancester came to this county with a wife
and 8 children, before the Rev. They were redemptioners, their service
being sold to defray the expenses of the passage. 2 of the 8 children
were killed in the battle of Brandywine. Another, Ludwick was the great
grandfather of Grant. He settled in Columbia Co., about 1800.
John, son of Ludwick, was born in Orangeville in 1808. He married
Rebecca Snyder, sister of the late Sheriff John Snyder. They had 8
children, 6 sons and 2 daughters.
George, son of John, was born Dec 24, 1833. He married Mary A. Hess, who
died 1893, age 57. Children; Grant, Ida, and John.
Grant married Sept 4, 1885 to Emma Jones of Bloomsburg, d/o John C.
Jones. She died Nov 8, 1910, age 49. Children; Donald Grant, born 1886.
Laura Douglas, born 1887 and Mildred, born 1893
