Hollinshead Family Burial Ground. Aka Kiser Burying Groumd. "this is the
resting place of many of the early English settler of the area. There
are 13 marked graves here, 9 by the name of Hollinshead, 2 by VanVliet
and 2 Stroud. The oldest tombstone marks the grave of Dirck Van Vliet
who was born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1699 and died Sept of 1774. John
Stroud who died in 1814 and his wife Elizabeth H. (Depui) Stroud, who
died in 1815, are also buried here along with Sarah (Stroud)
Hollinshead, the wf of Dr. James Hollinshead, John and Sarah Stroud, the
children of Col. Jacob Stroud.
Stroud-Aka Dansbury. This cemetery was the original burial grounds for
many of Stroudsburg resident's including Jacob Stroud, the founder, and
his wife Elizabeth, d/o John. Families buried here include, Bartron,
Bender, Bickley, Boys, Brown, Burnet, Burson, Bush, Christian, Darling,
Dutot, Kerr, Hollinshead, LaBar, Loder, Morris, Ransbury, Rees, Robeson,
Staples, Starbird, Stroud, and Werkheiser

The name Robeson does not appear in the Whitemarsh list of 1734, but the
family were quite early settlers along the lower Wisshickon. Before the
death of Edward Farmer, in 1745, Peter Robeson had married his daughter
Sarah, and his nephew, Jonathan Robeson Jr., Catharine, a younger
sister. Through this connection they came in possession of considerable
real estate in the township. Peter Robeson's tract contained 900 acres
and 52 arces on the Wissahickon, and was part of the tract which the
Indians called Umbilicamense.
Jonathan Robeson inherted the mill property in 1780, was assessed for
238 acres, a grist mill, three negroes, one riding chair, five horses
and four cattle. He is reported to have had 11 children. Among his sos
were also Peter and Andrew Robeson. Judge Andrew Robeson, the ancestor
of the family, died Feb 19 17719-20 aged 66y.
Robeson, Samuel "Levis", the youngest son of the 5 children of Samuel
Levis Robeson, Sr and his wife Margaret Wunder, was born June 28, 1829
in Lower Merion on his father's farm, which had been the property of his
great-grandfather, John Robeson, who on the 1st of Dec, 1863, purchased
the tract (152 acres) of Edward and John Roberts,exrs of the estate of
Robert Roberts. John Robeson conveyed it by deed, dated Oct 1, 1791, to
his son, Jonathan Robeson, bo whom it was occupied during his lifetime.
At his death the property passed by inhertance to his son, Samuel L.
Robeson, Sr., who owned it nearly 1/2 a century, and on the 14th of June
1872, sold it to James Sawyer, of Vineland, NJ., who in turn sold it to
James and Joseph Butler.
Of John Robeson, the anceastor, no record had been found. Jonathan, son
of John and Ann Robeson, was born 4th day of Ninth Month, 1745, and died
Feb 22, 1825
Samuel L. Robeson, elder son of Jonathan and Hannah, was born 18th day
of 7th month, 1789, died April 16, 1875. His wf Margaret Wunder, was
born Oct 24, 1796, died Feb 16, 1881. The five children of these parents
were, Jonathan born Feb 13, 1817, Mary born June 3 1819, unmarried.
Amanda born Dec 25, 1821. George Riter Robeson, born Nov 8, 1824. Samuel
Levis born 1829.
Samuel L., is not a member of any church or meeting. On June 24 1858 he
married Louisa E., d/o Jesse and Esther Thomas, ol Lower Merion. Her
father, Jesse Thomas, died March 21, 1882, her mother, Esther, died Feb
14, 1868.
