Hello,
Im looking for information on one of the Meyer or Moyer families of
Montgomery County.
I dont think Ive posted this family on the Montgomery County list
before. If I have and have forgotten, please forgive me. (Twin sons must
be taking their toll mentally.)
Im most interested in information on the parents of Benjamin
Meyer/Moyer who lived in Montgomery County, Pa., in the late 1700s. The
Meyers were Mennonites and I picked up most of my information at the
Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.
Heres the rundown on what I have:
Benjamin married Catherine Ziegler, who was born in 1736 to
Christopher and Deborah (Pawling) Ziegler. Benjamin died Jan. 1, 1819.
Their children:
Abraham.
John, born 1754.
Maria, born 1764. Married Henry Eshbach.
Eva. Married Ludwig Zerly.
Hannah, born 1760. Married Johannes Latshaw.
Deborah, born 1767.
Samuel, born 1773.
Barbara.
My sources for information on this family are: Abstracts of Wills
and Administrations of Montgomery County, Pa., Vol. 1, 1784-1822,
History of the Mennonites of the Franconia Conference, Oath of
Allegiance, Associates and Nonassociates, Montgomery County, Pa., (Part
of Philadelphia County) 1778-1779 and the card file at the Lancaster
Mennonite Historical Society.
I descend from Benjamins son Samuel, who married Sophrony Sechler
and, later, Susanna Boyer. The family moved west to Butler County around
1816.
A possible candidate for Benjamin's father is the Samuel Mayer who
is mentioned in connection with the Mennonite congregation in Upper
Milford in 1745. A second candidate is Christian Mayer, whose son
Samuel married the first cousin of Benjamin's wife, both granddaughters
of Michael Ziegler.
However, I havent found any solid leads yet.
Any help you can offer on Meyers or Mennonites in Montgomery could
prove helpful.
