Lancaster County History
I. Christian Zimmerman, grandfather, lived 2 miles northeast of
Goodvile. Children, John of Lancaster, David who died young, Christian,
Peter of Caernarvon township and died in E. Earl, Barbara who married
George Rupp, a minster of the Mennonite Church, Annie who married David
Cogel of Cumberland County, and Catharine who married Peter Good, of
Goodville.

II. Christian, the father, died in 1869, member of the Mennonite Church.
His wife was Mary, the d/o Peter Martin. They had 10 children; Barbara,
Anna, Martin, Mary who married John Weaver, a minister of the Mennonite
Church, lived in Elkhart, IN, Catharine who married Jacob Zimmerman,
John M., Levi., Christian, Peter, and Rebecca who married Abraham Martin
of Caernarvon township.

III. Rev. John M., married Dec 8, 1853 to Martha Kurtz, who was born in
East Earl, Dec 5, 1830, d/o Joseph and Martha (Groff) Kurtz. Children,
Martin who married Clarissa Emery and they had (John), Mary who died as
a child, John G. who married Annie Dengler and they had (Martin), and
Leah who died as a child.

Zimmerman or as Carpenter, Emanuel, son of Henry Carpenter and he was
born in Switzerland, in the year 1702. Henry Carpenter arrived in
Phila., in 1698, but returned to Europe, coming back to America in 1706,
bringing his family with him. He settled first in Germantown, but moved
to within the present bounds of Lancaster county, then Chester county,
in 1717. Emanuel Carpenter was a member of the Assembly from Lancaster
county in 1768. In 1760 he was appointed a presiding Justice of the
Common Pleas court of Lancaster county and that position till his death
in 1780. He died "beloved and lamented by all".
He is buried in Zimmerman or Carpenter's graveyard, near Earlville.


Zimmerman, Daniel, subect, was born Dec 25, 1846, s/o Emanuel and Mary
(Stauffer) Zimmernan. The family of Emanuel Zimmerman numbered 9, these
being; David,, Jacob of Earl township, Daniel, Samuel of Earl, Elizabeth
of Jacob Horst, Mary the wife John Good, of West Earl, Lydia, one who
died young.

Daniel Zimmerman was born in 1823 and died in 1895, his wife was born in
1822 and died 1892. His grandfather was Christian Zimmerman, a man of
means in his day, whose ancestors came to America from Germany and
reared a family of ten children; John, Christian, David, Jacob, Martin,
Elizabeth, Barbara, Susan, Emanuel and Peter.

Westmoreland County
Zimmerman family, represented in the Schuylkilll county for several
generations has been settled in PA for 180 years, since the 4 brothers,
Abraham, Jacob, Issac and Sebastian Zimmerman came from Germany in
1730-31. The first settled in easter PA, near Kutztown, in Maxatawny
township. Sebastian or Bastian as he was know in Berks County, paying
tax in 1759. He was the ancestor of the branch of the family in which we
are interested, the line of the present Sebastian Zimmerman of Sunbury,
an old resident of Sunbury. A soldier of the Rev. Abraham, son of
Sebastian, married Bernice Werley, and they lived in Kutztown; Children,
(all born in Maxatwny township) Elizabeth, Abraham, Samuel, Jacob,
Sebastian, Solomon, Carrie, Dewald, Esther, John, and Issac.

Sebastian, son of Abraham, was born May 7, 1796 in Berks County. He,
together with 3 of his brothers served in the War of 1812 and was one of
the 4 men detailed to bury the dead in the disaters about Washington.
Moving to Shuylkill county. He married Elizabeth Klock, d/o John, she
was born Aug 30, 1796.

Sebastian, son of Sebastian, was born June 2, 1830 in Cameron township,
Northumberland County, married 23 Feb 1851 to Elizabeth Shlappig, who
was born Nov 25 1832, a d/o Benjamin Shlappig.

Zimmerman, John, who was from Berks County, settled in Upper Augutua,
Northumberland county. His chilren, Daniel who married Catharine Hall,
John, who married Mary Hall, sister of Catharine, Peter who moved away.
Of this family, George lived in Augusta and moved to Sunbury, his
grandsons, Samuel and William H. Stroh. George Zimmerman's children;
Jeremian, Rachel, Luzy, Mary, Elizabeth, and Emma

Zimmerman, Daniel, grandfather of William A. of Rockefeller township,
Northumberland County, was born in Oley township, Berks County, Feb. 1.
1793, son of Johannes (John) Zimmerman, and died March 26, 1842. His
wife Catharine (Hall) was born Aug 1, 1791 and dieeJune 30, 1858.
Children, Samuel H. and Susan who married James Covert.

Samuel, was born Aug 23, 1824-25, married Mary Bartholomew, d/o Jacob
and Catharine (Bloom). Children; Malinda who married George W. Schive,
they lived in Scranton, Angeline who married Henry 'Wolf, Morris A. and
Sarah, who married David Fegley.

William A. was born Sept 10, 1858, on Oct 6, 1878 he married Susan Ship,
d/o John H. and Esther (Garlinger) Shipe, and granddaughtr of Samuel
Garinger and his wife, whose maiden name was Conrad. Children; Jennie,
and Donner E., who married Bertha E. Zartman

Zimmerman, George, was born March 26, 1784, son of George and Anna Maria
(Moutz), he died Sept 24, 1835. He is buried at Sunbury. He married 1st
to a sister of Henry Yoxtheimer and they had 4 children; Rebecca who
married Daniel Haas,, Sarah, Jeremiah, and Catherine who married
__Oyster. 2nd to Catherine (Hartzell) Oyster, she was the mother of 4,
George, Peter, Henry, and Simon

George, son of George, was born in Upper Augusta Township, Aug 18, 1818
and died May 13, 1887. His wife was Sarah Fasold, who was born May 13,
1818, and died May 2, 1863. They had a large family.

Samuel, son George2, was born April 24, 1848, he married Anna Mensch,
d/o Henry and Hannah (Reish) Mench. They had 7 children.

Zimmerman, Jacob, was born March 19, 1764 in Maxatawny township, Berks
Co., He married Susanna Brown, d/o Michael of Swabian Creek, Washington
township, Northumberland County.Children; John, Daniel, Jacob born 1794,
died un-married.

Daniel, son of Jacob, was born 5 Oct 1808, in Augusta township, he
married Hannah Fetherolf, d/o Peter of Mahantango Valley, Northumberland
Co. they had 12 children.

John, son of Daniel, wa born Feb. 5, 1829, he married 1st in 1851 to
Magdalena Kieffer, who died at age 27. He married 2nd to Rebecca
Campbell in 1869
