Lehigh County History
The ship "Thistle", arrived at Phila. Aug 20, 1730, had among its
passengers, Peter Fefferol, son of John Jacob. He was a native of
Wachbach, Germany, he was born March 20, 1699 He was married to Anna
Maria Rothermel in 1729, she was born Feb. 1712, the only daughter in a
family of 6 children, born to Johannes and "Sabilla" (Zimmerman)
Rothermel also native of Wachbach. He and his family and his
brother-in-law, Leonard Rothermel, before the organization of Berks
county, in 1752 had settled in Hereford township.

The name of Fetterolf has been corrupted into various spellings. The
ancestor in his last and testament, plainly wrote his name Peter
Federolf. In the immigrants in the PA Archives the clerk spelled it
Federolph. In the tax list has it Fetterolf. In old Lehigh church
records it appears as Johann Peter Fetherolf.. The decendant in Berks
and Lehigh counties spell it Fetherold and in Northumberland and Phila.,
Counties spell it Fetterolf.


Peter Ftterolf was the pioneer, he was a farmer. He owned land located
along the line of Berks and Lehigh counties, in three townships,
Hereford and Longswamp in Berks and Lower Macungie in Lehigh. The
Fetterolf homestead was situated near the village of Seisholtzville in
Hereford township. He died Aug 15, 1784 in his 86th year.

The pioneer, by his last will which was made July 19, 1784 and is
recorded at the courthouse at Reading. The following 6 children are
mentioned in the will. (1) Jacob, (2) Philip who married Christiana
Richard, on Nov 13, 1770, their daughter Elizabeth married Adam Wartman,
(3) John Peter, (4) Maria Magdlana, married Christopher Bittenbender,
(5) Catharine married 1st John Siegfried, 2nd to Abraham Zimmerman and
(6) Anna Barbara to Philip Hain (Hehn)

Jacob, son Peter, born Feb 16, 1742, died April 6, 1823, married
Catharine Brobst, one of the 6 children of Pioneer Philip Brobst
(Probst) an immigrant who had settled in Allemangel, Lynn township about
1739. She was born May 12, 1760 and died Jan 10, 1849.

Jacob, son of Jacob, was born Feb 7, 1782.. He was a farmer in Lynn and
lived near Jacksonville. He was married twice, 1st to Anna Nonnamaker
and 2nd Maria C. Kistler

John, son of Jacob, son of Jacob, married Catharine (Kistler) when Jacob
died at age 35, she married 2nd to ______Christ.

Reuben, son of Jacob, son of Jacob, he married Susan Wanamaker

David, son of Jacob, son of Jacob, married Sarah, d/o Heinrich Bellig.

Daniel, son of Jacob, son of Jacob, was born Sept 15, 1821. He married
Maria (Polly) Kistler/ Children; Mary, who married Jacob N. Hartman;
William K; Lucetta married Amos D. Trexler and John K.

Willam K. son of Daniel, was born July 30, 1849, at Jacksonville and
died on Monday, Jan 26, 1914. He married 24 Dec 1878 to Mary A. Pfeifly
of Lynnport. ; Surviors; Dr. Wm. J.; Mrs. Anna Heintzelman,
Schnechsville; Martin,, Allentown, Mrs. Eva Kohler, Kutztown, Mary,
Allentown, Edna, Irvin, and Dewey; a brother John, Jacksonville; and two
sisters, Mrs. Jacob Hartman, Kutztown, and Mrs. A.D. Trexler, of
Trexlers.

James, son of Reuben, married Angeline Kistler. They were farming people
in Lynn and Alband township. Children; Sallie married Dennis Hoppes; J.
Frank; Dr. James, re-elected coroner of Northampton county and resided
at Suckertown; Milton of Allentown and Dr. George of Reading.


Fetterolf, Johann Peter, the pioneer of a branch of this family in
Northumberland county, was born June 30, 1774, in Hereford township,
Berks county. He located in Cameron township, married there to Anna
Maria Dunkelberger, who was born Sept. 2, 1772. Children; Samuel, Peter,
Joseph, George, Joseph (the second) the first died in infancy, Daniel,
Mrs. Josiah Geist, Mrs. Joseph Dunkelberger, and Mrs. John Zimmerman.

The Phila., branch is descended through Adam Fetterolf a grandson of the
ancestor. His children were; Peter, Michael, Daniel, Samuel, Adam,
Gideon and a daughter Rachel, who married John Correll. All of them
resided in Montgomery county except Michae and Adam, who settled in
Columbia county, and Samuel who settled in Lebanon county.

Gideon Fetherolf, of Montgomery county had children; Susan, wife of
Abraham Tyson, Sarah the wife of Abraham Grimley, Henry H., of
Collegeville, Adam H., the late president of Girard Collage, who died in
1912, Abraham D., president of the Collegville National Bank, A. Curtis
of New York City, Horace G., of Phila, where he is a manufactuerer with
his son, Morton H., associated with him in business, was marrie to
Elizabeth Sherey Smith, d/o George Hunter Smith.

Another branch of this family located in the vicinity of Troxelville, a
village in Snyder county. The father of Andrew, John, Peter, and Henry
Fetterolf, was the pioneer. Andrew and Peter married sisters who where
the daughters of Henry Swart (Schwartz) from Berks county. John was a
great hunter. Andrew died April 24, 1883 aged 88y 1m 17d. His grandson,
Rev. J. H. Fettersolf is a Lutheran minister, residing at Kanas, and
Henry, located near New Lebanon county, Mercer county. He had a son,
David, of Warren county, PA.

Northumberland County History

Rothermel, John, descendant of the early progenitor, was born in the
providence of Wachbach, Holland, in 1688 and in 1708 married Sybillia
Zimmerman, native of the same province, and was a sister of the famous
General Zimmerman of the Dutch Army. In 1730, afer the birth of one
daughter and 5 sons, he set sail from Rotterdam with his entire family
for America. John died at sea. His wife and children arrived at Phila.,
Aug. 20, 1730 and the following year settled in Berks county. The
daughter Anna Maria married Peter Fetherolf in Wachbach in 1729, soon
settled in Macungie township, Lehigh county. The five sons were,
Lawrence, who married ____Kuhns Peter, Paul,married Catharine Maurer,
John and Christian, all who settled in Berks county. All early
Rothermels are buried in the family cemetery at Walnuttown in Berks
county.
