Gene,
I don't have specific information for you but have some suggestions
of where to look next. Definitely contact the Monroe Co. Hist. Soc.
since just about everything other than the brief period in Springfield
points to present day Monroe Co. I'm a Metzgar descendent and
have done some reasearch. The family is early in the Smithfield
Tsp. area and seems to have ties before that to the Great Swamp
area where Bucks/Lehigh/Northampton converge. (sort of)
I don't know of any adoptions, but perhaps one of the two
contacts I do have might. One is Dale Berger, with many
West End Monroe Co. lines and a very active cataloger of
cemeteries in that area.
The other is Lois Gilbert but I'm not sure if I have her
address any more. I know Lois and Dale talked and
you can probably get it from him.
The other thing I find interesting is the mention of the
Geres surname. The Metzgars in Monroe are very closely
tied to the Brotzman's. The Brotzman's and Hartzell's
are both families that 1. have connections to Geres, 2.
are migrations from Williams Tsp. in southern most Northampton
Co., and 3. both go to Smithfield Tsp. My contact for Brotzman's
is Kay Ervine.
HTH.
