Subject: [PANORTHA-L] BAST, Henry; Lehigh, Northampton County
Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 08:18:05 EST

I have found the following reference:

At a Meeting of the General Committee [of Safety?] of this County, held at
Easton , the 11th day of November, Anno, 1776, the following returns were
delivered for new members:

For...........
" Lehigh, . . . . Henry Bast
(PaArchives 2d/Vol 14/p 616)

A. Can anyone identify this Henry BAST?

B. Where is Lehigh? I can find no town or township named Lehigh in
Northampton County, just the river (in 1776 Northampton contained present
Lehigh County and part of Monroe County)

note: my ancestor, Jacob Henry/Heinrich BAST, came into Philadelphia in 1773,
poss. ran away from his master, a Philadelphia tailor, in 1777 and eventually
ended up north of Bethleham in Northampton Co. I think the "Henry" above is a
different person; is he a relative of Jacob Henry?
