Column
Despondent on account of the loss of his position, Robert F.
Billiard of South Bethlehem, sent a bullet through his brain on Sunday evening,
dying instantly. At about 6 o’clock that evening, a friend called on him and
tried to dissuade him from suicide which he had threatened. Scarcely had the
friend left when he heard a shot and knew that the threat had been executed.
He at once notified Constable Green, a neighbor, Green rushed to the house
and found Billiard dead on the lounge with blood trickling from a bullet hole
over the right ear and still clasping the smoking revolver.
The bullet had passed clean through the skull, and coming out on
the left side of the head, struck the south wall of the room, glanced off to
the west side and then off at an angle, striking and shattering the glass on a
picture of the Lord’s Supper, opposite to where the suicide sat. Much
surprise was occasioned by the occurrence, as all the time Billiard to be of jovial
