My name is John Dideum, new to this list. My family is from
Shamokin and the line contains DIDEUM, DIDIUM, WHEARY, BIDDINGER,
KASEMAN with LAUER and MARQUETTE on my mother's side.
An article in the Philadelphia paper recently presented information
about the Reading Anthracite Company and the store of records there.
A gentleman by the name of Frank Blase has volunteered his time to
sort out the vast collection of records that had been maintained by
the Philadelphia & Reading Coal & Iron Company (P&RC&I). He can be
reached at 1-800-654-7792 on Mondays and Thursdays 8:00 - 4:30 EST.
If some one worked at a colliery operated by P&RC&I, there is likely
to be some information there. Frank needs to know the name and
approximate dates of employment. Records on personnel seem to be best
between 1900 and about 1940. Records also include photos, maps and
other history of the collieries and patches. Frank is very friendly
and the Reading Anthracite Company is funding the project.
Good hunting... John
