Hi All,

I'm new to this list, so I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

I started doing online genalogical research about 3 years ago. It has
reaped tremendous rewards and provided a great deal of personal
satisfaction.

My personal genalogical mission is to find my gggggrandmother, Elizabeth
Boone DeFrance's ancestors. I learned very quickly that there are a
whole lot of Elizabeths with the Boone surname! So I modified my
approach.

Elizabeth's brother was Captain Hawkins Boone (12th PA Regiment of the
Continental Army) who was killed at the Battle of Fort Freeland (near
present day Milton/Turbotville, PA) on 7/28/1779. I'm hoping to find
their parents through him. In the process, I've become totally
fascinated with the history and geography of colonial PA.

And, I've learned quite a bit about Fort Freeland and the people who
were there on that day in 1779. I've actually gotten in touch with the
descendants of several of them. I'd be interested to hear from anyone
researching Fort Freeland and happy to share what I've learned.

Other individuals I'm interested in from Northumberland Co, ca 1760 -
1790 are: Captain Samuel Daugherty/Dougherty (Northumberland Militia,
who fell with Hawkins at Freeland's Fort), William Winter (who married
Anne/Anna/Hannah Boone in Virginia in 1747, said to be sister of Hawkins
and Elizabeth), Robert Arthur (who married Susan Boone, also said to be
a sister. Robert was an administrator of both Hawkins and William
Winter's estates), Robert Martin (a stranger to me, but also an
administrator of both estates), Hananiah Linkhorn/Lincoln (who served
with Hawkins in the 12th PA.), Jane Mercer Dougherty (Hawkins' first
wife. Their daughter Debbie is said to have married a John Dougherty,
nephew of Capt. Samuel) and a minister name Marinarus ((who married
Hawkins and his second wife, Jane ?, who became Jane Hardy, then
Fortenbaugh after his death).

These people are all connected somehow, and I believe that untying this
Gordian Knot will lead to my ggggggrandparents. Oh yes, the oral
tradition of several different familes holds these Boones to be cousins
of Daniel, the frontiersman - tho it's never been documented. Daniel's
family was from Exeter Twp, Berks Co (near Reading, once part of
Northumberland Co., and later part of Lancaster Co.)

Any help anyone can provide would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Larry
