With all this discussion of early history of Northumberland County, I'll offer
my two cents.

I've found very very little on the county prior to its formation (about 1772 or so?).
That is, I haven't found any tax lists for Berks or Lancaster Co that cover
the area no in Northumberland Co, and found relatively few people there when
the county was formed. My guess is that areas north of Sunbury, like Muncy
and Hughesville, had very little development prior to the formation of the
county and that most of the records for that area would be found in Northumberland
County (prior to the formation of Lycoming Co).

Certainly from a colonial legal standpoint, those areas either resided within
the jurisdiction of Lancaster and Berks Counties, but they seem to have only
taxed the folks "Over the Blue Mountains" which were on the immidiate north side.
Beyond that, I'd guess the Indian threat halted development.

I don't know if there is a Lycoming Co group - anyone else know?

Tim
