Thanks for posting the URL; but the church is not in Cameron Township, as
your subject line indicates. St. John's Lutheran Church is in Upper
Mahanoy Township, which is on the other (south) side of the Line Mountain
from Cameron Township. The village is Leck Kill (not Lech Kill). Local
tradition has an interesting story for the source of this unusual name.
At one time, local hunters would use salt licks to attract white-tail
deer, then shoot them. From this came the name Leck (a rough version of
the Pennsylvania German word for lick) Kill (as in "kill the deer!").
I'm not sure how much truth there is to that story, but that was what I
was always told by folks in the area when I was growing up. (I lived in
Leck Kill up until I went to high school.)
