Searching for information on MARCUS HULINGS and WIFE: REBECCA GODFREY,
Son MARCUS HULINGS JR and WIFE: MATSEY (aka MERCER, MASSAR, MASSEY)
DOUGHERTY or DAUGHERTY.
I am cross posting this message for the most exposure so I am sorry if you
receive it more than once.
Marcus Hulings Sr: b. 1712 in Amity Twp. now Berks Co. Died Sept 1788 in
Greenwood Twp, now Perry Co. He was on the COMMITTEE OF SAFETY during the
Revolution for Northumberland. I have found mention of him or of his son in
county history of Lycoming, Northumberland, Cumberland, and Perry.
Settled on island in river called Juniata, now Duncan Island. Time period
1753-1765. Went to Pittsburgh area but returned to Greenwood Twp before
death. Was married to REBECCA GODFREY, thought to be daughter of THOMAS
GODFREY of Phil.
One of their six children was: MARCUS HULINGS JR. b. 1742 not sure where.
d. Nov 20, 1809.. MYSTERY HERE...most books give a 1802 death date
"somewhere in Tn." But in the CRAWFORD MESSENGER an obit was found for him
listing the Nov 20, 1809 date in Northumberland Co, Pa. Where would this
be? Where would he be buried. By then his family had settled in Franklin
Co. wife MATSEY DOUGHERTY: Who were her parents..did they live in:
Northumberland? Perry? LYCOMING? When did she die and where?
This Marcus Hulings is listed as Ensign in the Rev but isn't in the
Abstracts for Pensions. Any information on his military duty?
Thank you,
Beth Sloan, gggggranddaughter
