Jeanie . . .
My ggg-grand uncle was Thomas WOODSIDE (b. 1774), a surveyor and
lifetime resident of Danville, PA on the northbank of the East
Branch of the Susquehanna River. His younger brother, John
WOODSIDE (b. 1782) was my ggg-grandfather. John lived in Rush
Twp for many years on the farm owned by his mother, Eleanor
(Montgomery) WOODSIDE, widow of John (b. 1747). It was John and
Eleanor who came in the MONTGOMERY party from Chester County in
the 1770's and settled the area on the north bank. Eleanor was a
niece of Gen Wm MONTGOMERY. Thomas, first mentioned, was their
first child of eight. And sorry, Jeanie, I now think he was born
in the fort at Northumberland on the opposite bank of the forks.
BTW, I knew of the canal in Danville but hadn't heard of one in
Sunbury . . .

Kathy)
