Subject: [PANORTHU-L] St. Joseph's Cemetery - Milton
Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2001 08:21:17 -0400
Hello, listers. I am desperately looking for the headstone of Philip
MURPHY, who died in 1850 in Milton. I've looked all over in Milton and
surrounding area cemeteries but cannot locate a headstone. I have a strong
suspicion he may have been Catholic, and I've been to St. Joseph's Cemetery,
but some of the headstones are impossible to read.
Does anyone know if records for St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Milton
exist anywhere, either on-line or in book form? The rectory itself said
they only have records going back to the early 1900's in their office, and
that anything earlier was either destroyed or sent to Harrisburg. (The
Catholic Diocese said they don't have them, either.) If the Church's
records themselves are no longer around, does a transcription of the
headstones exist? I'm hoping against hope that someone may have walked
around the cemetery a long time ago (before certain headstones became
illegible) and wrote each one of them down.
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.
Mark
