Here's a link to a map that shows the location of Lower Mahanoy township....it's western border is the Susquehanna River and it includes Dalmatia and Malta and Hickory Corners within its boundaries. The following is off the top of my head, but I think is correct: The much larger Mahanoy Township was first formed in 1775 , which was split into Lower and Upper Mahanoy townships in 1806. In 1836 Jackson Township was taken from it, and later parts of Jordan and Washington were taken from Jackson. So between 1806 and 1836 it would have included what is shown on the map as Lower Mahanoy, Jackson, and the western parts of Jordan and Washington. After 1836, it would have looked as it looks today.
