Left and right depend on which way you are facing...

....but there's a suggestion that women are buried on the man's left
according to some ancient traditions since it's said Eve was created from a
rib on Adam's left side.

The traditonal explanation for the man having the woman on his left at a
wedding is that he needed his sword hand free to fight off the angry
relatives whilst dragging the woman away to the altar. A modern version
maybe involves having his hand free to write cheques!


and, of course, its pretty usual for the wives to be in the right whatever
the situation! ;-)
