Grand Army of the Republic Civil War Museum and Library Receives Complete Edition of the National Tribune

Thanks to a generous grant obtained from the University of Pennsylvania Foundation and the assistance of Mr. Bob Hanrahan, a complete set of the “National Tribune” on microfilm has been added to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Museum and Library in Frankford, Philadelphia.
The “National Tribune” was the official newspaper of the GAR and was published weekly from 1877 to 1940. In 1940, the “National Tribune” was renamed the “Stars and Stripes”, still the voice of the US Military.
Using the “National Tribune”, many anecdotes and eye-witness accounts of the veterans’ service are chronicled. It is an essential research tool for any Civil War historian.
According to reports, there are only seven libraries nationwide which contain the entire collection.
