Hi Joe,
I recently had a similar experience and called the the PA Vital Records
office to complain.
Sure enough, my ancestor was there but her name was spelled ever so slightly
incorrectly.
If you know where your ancestor was buried, check the cemetery record and
make sure the Cert was filled out correctly.
Finally, I asked the supervisor that I helped me why PA wasn't working to get
the indexes on line as they are in so many other states? She didn't have an
answer though she did say that updated computer systems have added to the
difficulty of NOT finding the proper cert.
I certainly wish I knew where to pressure officials to make the indexes
public. That would do away with the need for ten year searches. It would also cut
way down on mistakes as we who are looking actually care whether we find the
info or not.
I would love to hear other thoughts on this matter. I have had terrific luck
with states like Alabama, SC, and OHIO where records can be found on line.
